The Unbreakable Spirit of a Woman March 16, 2023

This month is Women’s History Month. Our mothers, grandmothers, daughters, aunts, friends, and mentors—every woman in our lives who we love and cherish—is reminded that their existence is a gift to the world and those around them.

Woman’s History Month is observed in March every year in many countries, including the United States, Canada, and Australia. It’s a month-long celebration of the contributions that women have made to history, culture, and society. Small and big celebrations are held to highlight the achievements of women and raise awareness about the challenges they face.

Women’s History Month was birthed from a Californian school celebration in 1976. With an essay contest, speeches, presentations, and a joyous parade, this was the start of what we now have dedicated the month of March to every single year. The idea caught like wildfire and soon became an important time for the entire world to credit the spirited women who shaped the society we live in now.

This month, it’s time to take a deep breath and celebrate where we came from and where we are today because of women’s contributions. Whether we’re honoring the important women before us or the women we cherish in our everyday lives, we get a whole month to celebrate women for who they are!

We’ve made a lot of progress since the suffragettes, however, there is more work to be done. I started the Urban Queen series inspired by a Forbs article that talks about women leaders in our society. In my art, I want to encourage women to be involved, don their crowns, and push forward.

We are lucky to have trailblazing women who came before us and paved the path. However, this generation is equally as inspiring and I’m proud to have a part in it. These young women are making a huge difference in the world and I want to acknowledge their diligence to continue down the blazed path of our previous generations.

My life’s work is to capture the mesmerizing strength of women with colorful paint. I love that I get to bring that strength to life on my canvas with bold colors and shapes. Let’s join together in the admiration of womanhood and all the beauty and light that it brings.

I also want to recommend this podcast to my followers, called The Story of Women. I think both men and women should listen to them! A balanced society, and well-rounded conversation about what women can offer the world, improve the lives of everyone—men and women.

Let’s admire and celebrate the past and current trailblazing women in our lives this month!

For a month dedicated to recognizing women’s strengths, it’s fitting to send special love to the mothers in our lives. All around the world, Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days. In Romania, that day was March 8th, and in the UK, it’s March 19th! While it’s not directly related to Women’s History Month, it’s an opportunity to recognize the important role that women, particularly mothers, have played in shaping our communities and societies.

I want to take this opportunity to celebrate all mothers, regardless of where or when their special day is celebrated. We get to take a moment to value what they’ve brought into our lives and recognize the sacrifices they’ve made for us.

I’ve been blessed to celebrate with my daughter and mother. It’s a surreal and magical moment having three generations of women together. The most important women in my life with whom I share blood, all together sharing memories. Even small memories like going out for lunch are precious for a lifetime.

Whether mothers are honored by handpicked flowers, decadent chocolates, a bottle of fine wine, or simply just kind words and a hug, the sentiment is what brings tears to their eyes. Even a phone call brings warmth to a mother’s heart. We do these things not because we have to but because it’s a small gesture of gratitude for the years of hard work, sleepless nights, and selfless nurturing.

It is a wondrous and sacrificial love that mothers are capable of, and capturing the beauty of it on my canvases is a joy. Mothers show up every day to care for their children and are often the last to pour into their own cups. There is an estimated 2.2 billion mothers in the world, so to all the mothers out there, I want to say thank you from mother to mother. I know the journey doesn’t come with a manual, and you’re doing the absolute best you can. Thank you for your unwavering love, your tireless dedication, and your unbreakable spirit. You are appreciated, you are loved, and you are an inspiration to us all.

Happy mother’s day to all mothers here, and a special shoutout to my own mother. My mom is an inspiration of strength and determination. She is the true Urban Queen.

The subject of celebrating women transports me back in time to March 8th of last year. Powerful women of influence joined me inside the stunning walls of Hotel Zena Washington to launch the global #wearyourcrown campaign.

This campaign was for women of influence to empower, inspire, and elevate other women to wear their crowns. It was to challenge women to take their place in society with pride and dignity and share this with the online world by using the hashtag #wearyourcrownWith nine canvases, a group of influential women, and symbolic golden crowns spread across a table, we used this exhibition to ignite courage in women and support powerful charities.

An event to remind each woman that we are Queens.

There is no doubt in my mind that the women who are painted on those nine canvases have contributed to our society in a way that will be honored every year in the month of March. I am honored to have painted their beauty and partnered with them to influence others to embody their own dignity and significance.

So let this empowering event and the theme of this entire month remind you that every woman is a Queen in their own right. Happy Women’s History Month and Mother’s Day to all!!
