Poppies in a Wheat Field II

This painting was inspired by a trip to the Danube Delta for my birthday weekend. As we traveled by car there were huge golden wheat fields shining in the hot June sun. The poppies by the side of the fields were contrasting the golden wheat and their blood red colour popped out and made me cry with joy. We stopped the car several times and I took at least a hundred pictures. I got myself waist deep in the fields and looked for different angles, lights and shades. I also sat in the fields just absorbing it all in to the annoyance of my travel companions who wanted to get a move on. As soon as I returned to the studio I completed two paintings.

This is the larger one and it’s available to purchase as an original.
