Urban Queens, Urban Kings: Painting a World in Balance
As the new year begins, I find myself reflecting on the path that has led me here and the direction I wish to take in 2025. My art has always been deeply rooted in the exploration of identity, strength, and the balance within us all. The Urban Queens series has been a tribute to women—celebrating their resilience, grace, and individuality. This journey has been personal, but it has also connected me to something far greater.
This year, I am proud and deeply honored to have been selected as an ambassador for the #WeAreHalf campaign, a movement dedicated to empowering women and promoting gender equality. The campaign’s mission is simple yet profound: women are half of society, and we have given birth to the other half. This phrase, which is at the heart of #WeAreHalf, encapsulates a truth that often goes unacknowledged. It is a call to action—a reminder that women deserve equal representation, equal opportunities, and equal voices in all aspects of life.
The #WeAreHalf campaign goes beyond words. It actively works to empower women through education, advocacy, and community-building. It promotes gender equality by addressing systemic barriers and creating opportunities for women to thrive in the workplace, in leadership roles, and in their personal lives. The campaign’s initiatives remind us that when women are empowered, society as a whole benefits.
This mission deeply resonates with my values as an artist and with my own #WearYourCrown campaign. Both movements are driven by the belief that women deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated. They share a common goal: to inspire women to embrace their power and take their rightful place as equals in the world. This alignment makes my role as an ambassador for #WeAreHalf even more meaningful.
Standing in my studio, surrounded by my Urban Queens, I see this message reflected in my work. Each queen is unique, painted in a style that captures the many facets of femininity. Some are created in oil, their richness and texture evoking tradition and depth. Others are bold and abstract, full of energy and spontaneity, a testament to the fluid and ever-changing nature of a woman’s spirit. Together, they tell a story of diversity, strength, and individuality—a story that aligns perfectly with the mission of #WeAreHalf.
But as I look ahead, I feel a new chapter unfolding. If women are half of society, then the other half must also be represented. To truly honor the balance that #WeAreHalf embodies, I am expanding my work to include Urban Kings. These kings will not diminish the queens but will stand alongside them, completing the narrative and celebrating the harmony between feminine and masculine energies.
The kings will represent strength that is rooted in wisdom, confidence tempered by humility, and power balanced by compassion. Just as the Urban Queens embody the beauty and resilience of women, the Urban Kings will capture the grace and dignity of men who understand the importance of balance and equality.
This evolution in my art is not just about creating new paintings; it’s about embracing a deeper truth. The #WeAreHalf campaign has reminded me that progress is not achieved in isolation but through partnership and unity. My queens and kings are a reflection of this balance, a visual representation of a world where both halves of society are valued and celebrated.
Through my work as an artist and ambassador, I hope to amplify the message of #WeAreHalf—a message that calls for equality, balance, and recognition. This year, my brush will continue to celebrate women while also honoring the men who stand with us in the pursuit of equality. Together, the Urban Queens and Urban Kings will tell a story of balance, harmony, and the beauty that comes from recognizing our shared humanity.
Because in the end, we are all connected—two halves of a greater whole. And it is only when we stand together, in balance, that we can truly thrive.
