A Bird’s Eye view December 21, 2017
Sometimes we have to stand back and take stock of our lives. Every December or January, depending on available time, I take a few days to look at my life. I start with writing my annual journal, describing all the important things that happened in my personal life, my career and my charity work. I write about people who influenced me, places I visited, books and workshops that had a great impact on me. I write about my family, my feelings and I try to summarize the year into one word or one sentence.
After that, I take another couple of days to write down next year’s goals, dreams and wishes.
It is a process millions of people do all over the world. By being grateful for what you have and writing down that what you wish for, you are halfway through the process of bringing it into your life.
I love reading through my journals, my first entry is from 2001. There is a beautiful flow and I can see my life clearly. I see people coming in and out of my life, I see myself transforming and becoming the person I am today, I see patterns forming good or bad. It is a birds eye view of my life. This picture, taken in my studio, is a great visual for this process. The little things go out of focus and can’t even be seen anymore, like the stains on the floor. The important things, the paintings that make up your life, the ones that were created individually with sweat, love and care, now when put together, form another bigger picture, and this picture tells the story of your life.
As we are approaching the end of the year, I have started to think about this process. I haven’t put pen to paper yet, however it’s in my consciousness.
